My Black Beret

It’s black history month and I love how the people of NYC are representing and showcasing their personal style with an epic afro-centric touch. Pulling off kente cloth isn’t always easy to do, especially while making it a fashionable look. I love prints and patterns, but we always need an alternative and it’s great having mother f^#$&@g options (insert Roc-A-Fella hands here). This is where accessories come in. If you don’t know by now, accessories can make or break a Dope ass fit.  One major accessory that comes to mind is a statement hat to top things off and there’s this one hat i’ve been seeing all throughout NYC. It seems to be trending lately and your boy is here for it. I love a good hat y’all and this dome piece of mine needs coverage. The right one can be very pleasing to the eye. Not only can a hat pull an outfit together like a hail Mary pass in the 4th quarter, but it’s also a great cover for a brother and his thinning hairline. I mean, we all got our own struggles lol, so lets keep this a judgment free zone. Anyway… Hats can serve many purposes just as I explained. My favorite purpose however is to be completely F^#$%G EXTRA! A perfect way to be that extra is throwing on a beret.

I’ve already had a deep love for berets and it feels great to see more and more fashion junkies embrace it. I don’t know if you guys noticed, but berets are kind of everywhere right now. Recent Moschino ads and stars like Cardi B have been on the beret wave. You’re sure to see one scrolling down ya time lines as well. They’re simply dope and add a dramatic twist to an everyday outfit. Now, now, now… there’s a lot of berets so grab one that fits your style. By fits your style, please note that everything isn’t for everybody and berets are one of those things. Now my kind of beret isn’t the cute felt beret. They are hella dope for fashionistas, pairing with the different colors and adding a cool Parisian effect. Those different colors really show an outfit love, I just don’t want be out here looking like I have paint brushes in my backpack lol. Then there are these fly leather ones that I’ve been seeing. I tried it, but I was out here looking like Cool Moe Dee. It was cool, but I’m not on that type of time. I’m more of the black panther, leather trimmed military beret kind of player.  Like I said, you gotta do what works for you and the powerful images of Huey P. Newton and his Black Panther community activist is a look I can definitely vibe with. I just throw on all black along with some dope boots. I add some black leather and some gold accessories and be nothing else, but EXTRA! Remember it is Black history month, so this may be my go to look all month long. Militant, and unapologetically black is a big vibe. Represent Black culture as colorful and as fashionable as you’d like. Just keep in mind that the simplistic and strong statement of all black is a great alternative. My black beret makes that statement even stronger! Look out for my next blog post. Stay Flee!
